Pressure tests for gate, globe, plug, check, ball and butterfly valves to API Standard 598: which tests apply (Table 1), shell, backseat and closure test pressures (Tables 2 and 3), minimum test durations (Table 4), allowable closure leakage (Table 5), and a pass / fail test record for each valve

◉ API STD 598 10TH ED. (OCTOBER 2016) · TABLES 1 – 5 · UPGRADE DUE: 11TH ED. (2023) · NOT A REGULATORY SUBMISSION TOOL
⚠ Edition. Built on API Standard 598, 10th edition (October 2016), the text on file. The 11th edition (2023) is current and has not been compared: the tool will be upgraded when that text is available, so check any changed requirement against it. Shell and high-pressure closure test pressures of steel valves depend on the ASME B16.34 pressure rating at 38 °C, which is not reproduced in API 598: the tool offers the Group 1.1 (carbon steel, e.g. A105 / A216 WCB) standard-class ratings as a preset, and you enter the rating for any other material. Indicative tool; the purchase order and the valve product standard govern.

Identification
API 598 rounds the steel-valve shell test up to the next whole bar in SI and the next 25 psig in US units, so the two unit systems can differ slightly; use the system the purchase order is written in.
Summary
Describe the valve, then record the tests.
1. Valve
2. Tests Required, Pressures and Durations (Tables 1 – 4)
3. Allowable Closure Leakage (Table 5, 5.9)
4. Test Record
For each test performed, enter the pressure held, the time it was held at full pressure (Table 4 counts from when the valve is fully prepared and under full pressure), the closure test fluid, and the leakage seen. Leave a row blank if the test was not done.
