Fire Fighting Equipment Calculator
Portable extinguisher counts and fire hose length for refineries and oil/gas processing plants (OISD-STD-116 §11, §12.3)
◉ OISD-STD-116 §11–12 STYLE CHECK · NOT A REGULATORY SUBMISSION TOOL
⚠ Indicative tool only, and distinct from the existing OISD-116 Fire Water Demand calculator. That tool covers bulk cooling/foam water volume; this one covers portable equipment counts and hose lengths — a different part of the same standard, not something to sum with the other tool's output. Mobile equipment (fire tenders, foam trailers, DCP tenders) is mostly specified as fixed minimum counts rather than area-based formulas, and is shown here as reference rather than computed.

Portable Fire Extinguishers (§11.1)
Maximum travelling distance to any extinguisher is 15m in all cases; at least 2 units at any single designated location (e.g. a pump house or control room), regardless of what the area-based count alone would give.
Result
DCP 10kg (1 per 250m², min 2)
DCP 25/50/75kg (1 per 750m², critical areas, in addition to 10kg)
CO₂ 4.5–22.5kg (1 per 250m², min 2)
Portable water-cum-foam monitor: minimum 2 for a petroleum refinery, 1 for a gas processing plant — a fixed count, not area-based. Note: at elevated locations, 5kg DCP replaces the standard 10kg unit.
Fire Hose Length (§12.3)
One 15m hose length per hydrant for the first 100; one additional 15m length for every 10 hydrants beyond 100. At least 50% of total hose length shall be Type B (synthetic).
Result
Total hose length required
Minimum Type B hose length (≥50%)
Mobile Fire Fighting Equipment (§12.1–12.2, reference)
Fire tenders (higher of a risk-based count or the following minimums): 3 foam tenders (2 fire fighting + 1 spill/standby, each ≥3000–3600L foam tank, ≥4000 lpm pump @ 8.5 kg/cm²); 1 DCP tender with two 2000kg vessels (nitrogen expellant) for LPG/gas fires, monitor throw 40–50m.

Other mobile equipment: minimum 2 foam tank trailers (500–1000L foam tank, ≥1000 GPM monitor); minimum 2 trolley-mounted water-cum-foam monitors (≥2000 GPM, foam induction from ≥60m away); 1–2 foam nursers (7000–16000L); 1–2 portable/trailer fire pumps (1800–2250 lpm @ 7 kg/cm²g).
