Alternative — Thickened Nozzle Body Method (§13.1.5)
L ≥ 1.17√(rmen), where rm = (ro+ri)/2. The thickened nozzle body protrudes both sides of the shell plate (see Fig. 13). Nozzle thickness shall be such that the stress concentration factor Scf does not exceed 2 (Fig. 14, not computed here).
Replacement factor y (credits the nozzle wall's own excess thickness toward reinforcement) uses rm and en from the card above. Subsequent welds to a post-weld-heat-treated nozzle body shall not be closer than 2.5√(rien).
