Chemical and mechanical requirements for alloy/stainless bolting (A193) and the matching nut grades and proof-load formula (A194)
◉ ASTM A193/A193M-04 · A194/A194M-16 · NOT A REGULATORY SUBMISSION TOOL
⚠ Both editions are superseded. A193/A193M-04 is well behind the current edition; A194/A194M-16 is behind the current A194/A194M-23. Values were read from the editions supplied. Confirm against the edition your project specifies, particularly for any grade or footnote added in a later revision.
A193 covers bolts, studs and similar externally-threaded fasteners; A194 covers the matching nuts. The two are companion specifications — a bolting assembly is typically ordered as an A193 grade paired with a compatible A194 grade (e.g. B7 with 2H, B8 with 8).

Proof Load = Stress Area × Proof Stress (Table 3/4, note A). Proof loads are not design loads. The proof load for jam nuts is 46% of the tabulated load.
