    About this tool

The Annex L Data Sheet tool fills the API 650 Storage Tank Data Sheet (Annex L, 14th edition, August 2025) from the calculations already saved in Tank Protocol for the same company and Tank ID. Each value carries the name of the calculation it came from. The lines no tool covers (purchaser, coatings, inspection and so on) are typed in. The tool checks that the calculations agree with each other, counts blank lines against L.3.1, builds Tables 1, 2, 3 and 5 and an elevation sketch for page 8, and prints the eight-page sheet.

    Scope

The sheet is built from the saved records as they are; nothing is redesigned here. The Purchaser remains responsible for the sheet (L.2.2) and the Manufacturer for the lines marked * (L.2.3). Check every line before issuing it.

    Quick start

Press Load illustrative sample: TK-101, a 36 m × 14.4 m crude tank with a supported cone roof and an internal floating roof. Its 12 calculation records were made by running eleven Tank Protocol tools with one consistent set of inputs. The Purchaser lines are filled with entries marked (example).

    1. 1
Enter the Company and Tank ID used when the calculations were saved.
    2. 2
Press Load saved calculations for this tank. The latest 14th-edition record of each tool is used; pick another or leave one out in the table.
    3. 3
Work down the data sheet: check each value from a calculation and type the rest. Use NA, Later or TBD rather than leaving a line blank.
    4. 4
Resolve the notes in the summary: differences between calculations, failing checks in a saved calculation, older editions, blank lines.
    5. 5
Set the data sheet status, then Save data sheet and Print / PDF data sheet.

    • The tool reads the same records you see under Show saved calculations in each tool: your own and the official records of your company.
    • For each tool the latest 14th-edition record is used; when there is none, the latest record of any edition, with a note. Nozzle tools use the latest record of every nozzle.
    • If a collection cannot be read, the status line names it and the rest still load.

    Filling in the sheet

Shell DesignA blue chip: the value came from that calculation (with any note).
enteredAn amber chip: you typed over a calculation’s value; the chip shows its value and a use it link.
enteredA green chip: a line no calculation fills, typed in.
blankA red chip: still blank (L.3.1).
    • Values from calculations are shown in the units chosen at the top; switching units converts them. Text you type stays exactly as typed.
    • Mark blank lines TBD fills every remaining line with TBD; Mark blank floating roof lines NA does the same with NA on pages 6 – 7.
    • Pages 6 – 7 are included when a floating roof calculation is loaded. Untick Include the floating roof pages to omit them (L.2.1).
    • Lines marked * may be left to the Manufacturer (L.2.3); they still need an entry, even TBD.

    Consistency between the calculations

The same quantity is often entered in several tools. The tool compares them and notes any that differ: a sign that one calculation was run for another tank or an earlier revision.

    • The sample agrees on all seven. Change a tool’s diameter and the summary names the tool and its value.

    Tables and the sketch

    • Table 1: shell courses grouped by material and CA, roof, bottom, annular ring, reinforcing pads and necks, anchor attachments.
    • Table 2: anchor bolts or straps from Tank Anchorage. Flange and structural bolting go in its notes.
    • Table 3: one row per nozzle: mark, service, size, neck wall, reinforcing plate (Do × T or diamond L × W) and elevation to centre. Flange class, facing, gaskets and projections go in its notes.
    • Table 5: floating roof components and thicknesses from the IFR calculation.
    • The elevation sketch (page 8) draws the courses with their thicknesses and materials, the roof, the design liquid level, the Levels tool’s high-high, normal and minimum fill, the floating roof, wind girders and nozzles at their elevations. It is not to scale; orientations are not in the nozzle records and go in the sketch notes.

    The checks

Saving, reopening and the printed sheet

    • Entries, the choice of records and the records themselves are kept on this device as you work, and offered back if the page closes.
    • Save data sheet stores the sheet with a copy of the calculations it was built from. Reopening shows the sheet exactly as saved, even if a calculation has changed since; press Load saved calculations to bring it up to date. Saving again makes a new record that notes what it was based on.
    • Print / PDF data sheet: the summary, pages 1 – 3, Tables 1 – 3, page 5, pages 6 – 7 and Table 5 when included, the sketch, the calculations used and the line coverage. Each entry shows where it came from; blank lines show in red.

    Limits and interpretations

    • Values are taken from the saved records as they are; the tool does not recalculate them.
    • Ring forces for wind, internal pressure and partial vacuum are not derived; enter them from the foundation design.
    • Nozzle orientations, flange classes and gaskets are not in the nozzle records; enter them in Table 3’s notes and the sketch notes.
    • Wind girder section moduli are shown in cm³ as saved, and roof-to-shell member sizes in mm, in either unit system.
    • An older-edition record is used only when it is the only one; its fields may be missing, so check the lines it fills.
    • Annex V (external pressure) will add its lines when that tool is built.
